When you start setting your goals for the year ahead, keep your specific goals to yourself and keep your goals general to all others around you.
Your goal may be to lose 70 lbs of body fat in 2019, but all the masses need to know is that you’re trying to clean up your diet and shift a few pounds.
Maybe your goal is to squat 250 kg in 2019 and that’s great, keep that goal in mind throughout every single training session, but if others ask, just tell them you’re trying to hit a new PB on your squat, they don’t need to know the specifics.
Why don’t I think it’s a good idea to share your specific goals with everyone?
Simply put: 90% of the people you meet have negative/defeatist mindsets and will go out of their way to tear you down and tell you why you can’t do something, just because they don’t have the mental fortitude to set a goal, stick to that goal and work towards it every day.
I’m going to contradict myself now, but, I do also feel its important to put your goal out there (to the right people) in order to keep you accountable. The right people would be those that believe in you and your goal and will hold you accountable.
Look around at your circle of friends/family, and consider yourself lucky if you know even a small handful of people like this.
At the end of the day, you only need one person to believe in you… YOU
